Terms & conditions
Terms and conditions for driving instruction
These terms are between Caroline Forbes (the Instructor) and you (the Pupil). By booking a lesson, you agree to comply with and be bound by the following Terms and Conditions, which incorporate the official Driving Instructor Code of Practice.
1. Instructor status & professional standards
- Professional conduct: The Instructor is approved by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and commits to upholding the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and road safety.
- National standards: Instruction will be delivered strictly in accordance with the national standard for driver and rider training.
- Display of badge: The Instructor will clearly display their valid ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) badge or trainee certificate in the car windscreen during all paid instruction.
2. Pupil entitlement & vehicle safety
- Licence check: Before the first lesson, the Pupil must provide valid proof of their entitlement to drive the tuition vehicle (e.g., a valid provisional driving licence).
- Vehicle readiness: The Instructor ensures that the training vehicle is fully insured for driving tuition, roadworthy, legally compliant, clean, and fitted with an extra interior rear-view mirror and dual controls / L-plates.
3. Price, duration, and progress tracking
- Lesson pricing: The current price for driving tuition is £38 an hour or a block of 10 hours costing £350.
- Lesson duration: Lessons will either be 60 minutes, 90 minutes or 120 minutes. The lesson length will be agreed before the start of the lesson. The Instructor promises to deliver the full duration of training paid for and will not shorten lessons unless agreed otherwise under exceptional circumstances.
- Progress records: The Instructor will keep accurate records of all lessons completed and hours delivered. The Pupil will be clearly updated on their current progress and any further training required.
4. Financial responsibilities & refund policy
- Advance payments: All money paid to the Instructor, particularly tuition fees paid in advance (e.g., block bookings), will be accounted for, secured, and strictly protected.
- Refund policy: Advance payments are valid for 6 months from the date of purchase. If a Pupil requests a refund for un-delivered hours this will be given in the same method of the original payment.
5. Cancellations & late arrivals
- Cancellation policy: The Pupil must give at least 48 hours notice to cancel or reschedule a lesson. Failure to give required notice will result in the Pupil being charged the full fee for that lesson.
- Instructor reliability: The Instructor will make every effort to arrive on time. If the Instructor is late, any missed time will be added on to the end of the current lesson or carried forward and added on to a future lesson. If the Instructor repeatedly arrives late or cancels lessons without due cause, the Pupil reserves the right to terminate this agreement.
6. Safeguarding, professional boundaries, & devices
- Safe learning environment: A safe and respectful environment will be maintained at all times. Physical contact is restricted to emergency safety interventions or necessary instructional adjustments.
- Mobile phones & tablets: In strict accordance with the law and code of practice, the Instructor will not use a mobile phone or hand-held device whilst in the vehicle unless the car is parked and the engine is turned off. Hands-free calls will not be taken during instruction. Tablets for recording progress or showing diagrams will only be used when the vehicle is safely parked with the engine switched off. The Pupil will ensure that any devices they bring into the car are turned off or on silent mode during the lesson.
- In-car cameras & media: Footage from in-car cameras or dashcams will never be distributed, circulated, or published without the explicit written consent of the Pupil.
7. Preparing for and managing driving tests
- Booking restrictions: Learners must book their own car driving test appointments. The Instructor cannot book, change, swap, or cancel car driving tests on behalf of the Pupil. The Instructor will communicate times they are available to supply the car for tests.
- Test readiness: The Instructor will advise the Pupil to book a later test date if the Pupil is not fully prepared or safe. If the Pupil books a test and the Instructor doesn’t feel they are ready, the Instructor has the right to refuse the pupil use of their vehicle.
- On test day: The Instructor will ensure the vehicle arrives at the test centre in good time, clean, and appropriately equipped. An agreement will be reached beforehand regarding whether the Instructor accompanies the Pupil during the practical test.
8. Data protection & privacy
- Handling personal data: The Instructor strictly follows UK data protection regulations. Personal data, contact details, and client records will be stored securely and destroyed safely when no longer needed. No details or images will be shared publicly or on social media without explicit written consent.
9. Complaints procedure
- Resolution: If the Pupil is dissatisfied with any aspect of the instruction, they should bring it to the attention of the Instructor immediately. The Instructor aims to resolve all complaints promptly and fairly.
- Escalation: If a complaint cannot be resolved internally, the Pupil has the right to escalate the matter to the DVSA ADI Registrar.
